The Shop

In this episode we visit the early versions of the shop. I have half of a two-car garage. Half of this is taken up by my woodworking stuff. The metalworking shop is therefore 1/4 garage big.

The faithful workmates were a great  help while I set up the shop! The bench in the center is the wood bench.

A bit dark to be sure, but this is the metal bench, with the Taig lathe left, followed by Cecil B. de Mill and the drill press. I have since improved the lighting.

This is the workbench proper. All the benches are hand-built mortise and tenon construction. They were built at Chalupy, my former bush dewlling.

Finally the tool cabinet. The metal ones are much too expensive, so I built my own. Beyond it is the "dirty bench" which holds grinders, bandsaw and  other abrasive things. As far away from the machines as I can get it.

The shop has had lighting improvements and a few other things added but the layout is unchanged. Next we will get on with the first project in this shop: the Isaacs clock.

Welcome

This is the first post in a new blog. It deals mostly with my adventures and misadventures in a very small shop, along with occasional glimpse of life in Anchorage, Alaaska. My previous adventures in bush Alaska are documented in chalupyacres.blogspot.com. In the next post I will introduce my shop. Then I will go on to my current projects.
